Gloriana's Mission Statement

Gloriana Musical Theater is dedicated to producing high-quality entertainment that engages, inspires, and transforms. Through the art of theater, we provide cultural enrichment, creative development, and opportunities for self-discovery. We cultivate the creative energy of our youth, celebrate diversity, and honor our heritage.

Values

Courage: We believe that making theater involves risk. We choose artistically interesting works and tell stories that entertain, but also provoke, challenge, and thrill audiences. We are accountable for our mistakes.

Equity: We believe that the arts can transform lives. To ensure that our theater and its programs are accessible to everyone in our community, we strive for inclusion, diversity, and fairness in our events, fundraising, and hiring.

Quality: We believe that theatre has the power to illuminate, transform, and heal. We strive for exemplary quality in everything we do and endeavor to create a joyful, professional experience for artists, patrons and volunteers. Communication and collaboration are key; how we work with one other matters.

Acceptance: We believe theater can be a home for anyone seeking one. We accept people for who they say they are. We listen more than we speak. We offer respect and trust to all who walk through our doors.

Willingness: We believe making theater is magical, but it is also hard work. Everyone in the company pitches in, learns new skills, and assumes the best of intentions at all times.

Youth Development: We believe young people, and their families, deserve the joy and new perspectives offered by high-quality theater. Young people are the backbone of our company; they are a part of decision-making and magic-making. Building young people’s skills on stage and behind the scenes are at the core of what we do.

History

GLORIANA MUSICAL THEATRE, originally known as THE GLORIANA OPERA COMPANY, was founded in 1976 with Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Mikado as its first offering at Crown Hall in Mendocino, 1977. Gloriana Musical Theatre is one of the oldest performing arts groups in Mendocino County.

Since its inception, Gloriana Musical Theatre has presented the Broadway experience to the Mendocino coast and its visitors. With talented directors, performers, choreographers, costume, lighting and set designers, back stage staff, and volunteers. GMT has brought exciting musical theatre, Rock 'n' Roll revues, A Cappella performances, magic shows, and young performer productions to our community.

We applaud our audiences, sponsors, and donors. Without their support, Gloriana's stages would be bare, its seats empty.
